Painting #3 in the Summer Trees series

The reference photo for this painting was taken in the back woods on our church’s property. I went out there to walk and pray one day at sunset and was stunned by my surroundings. I loved how the .5 lens bent the low light and captured the highlights on the treetops above me as well. Symbolizing that God’s love is reaching above me, below me, and wrapping all around me.

The painting was a sudden change from the original idea of painting a complicated root system. After feeling frustrated with the process, I pivoted to paint something I enjoyed, and that’s where this painting was born.
